Osteopathy
Osteopathy can be thought of as a specialist for the physical systems of the body, but on a deeper level than might be found in physiotherapy. Subtle techniques that unwind strains and old trauma that the body has been holding onto, perhaps for a prolonged period, can be dissolved away. This leaves the body free to get on with whatever it needs to.
Preparing for Conception
A checkover can determine if there any issues with vitality or simply being well enough for the body to contemplate the extra energies required in conception and pregnancy. No two people are the same, and an individualised course of vitality enhancing treatments, or addressing specific mechanical or constitutional issues, can be undertaken.
Difficulties with conception
Osteopathy can be particularly effective with this, since there are reflex connections from the spine to the reproductive and hormonal systems, and things can be literally switched back on again. This process is not guaranteed, but our success rates are as good or better than IVF, and offer a natural alternative to what can otherwise be a long, expensive and trying process.
Osteopathy and the pregnant woman.
Many women see their Osteopath for the aches and pains of pregnancy. Many people are told that is part of the deal but often this is simply not true, and a short course of treatment can work wonders. The spine and pelvis gets a good workout in the delivery process, and it makes sense to make dsue everything is in tit-top condition.
Osteopathy and delivery
Cranial Osteopathy, a very gentle approach, can be helpful with letting go of tensions which might be delaying labour. This is a very pleasant process and very relaxing – often just what is needed.
Osteopathy and the new mother
As soon as mum is up and about, many people come to have their baby checked over by a Cranial Osteopathy, which is often the only treatment that can help with colicky troubles, baby doesn’t sleep well, or head moulding issues. We work with our other colleagues to make sure everything is progressing nicely, and every baby and mother would benefit from some post delivery treatment. This is true still with caesareans. The mother is often knocked out by the combination of anaesthetic and surgery, and helping the back and tummy wall to relax can be enormously helpful.
